In 2000, in the Millenium Declaration, all United Nations Member States committed to achieve by 2015 the "UN Millenium Development Goals".
Alcatel's action to bridge the digital divide is in line with the eigth goal defined in this declaration ("
Develop a global partnership for development") which invite governments, in cooperation with the private sector,
to
"make available the benefits of new technologies—especially information and communications technologies."
