Managing and maintaining a submarine cable system at the lowest operating cost whilst delivering the highest level of performance is a key objective of system operators. The operator who guarantees availability of service ensures that end-user confidence remains high and revenue streams are secure. In the highly competitive telecommunications market access to experience and expertise is crucial but not always available in-house. Recognising these needs, Alcatel has developed a range of services to support operators from initial planning to maintenance of installed undersea networks.
Our services portfolio aims to address a wide range of possible requirements and is divided into six domains:

On-Line

When you have concerns about system performance, immediate access to technical assistance is paramount. End-user confidence relies on demonstrating the ability to diagnose and resolve system technical issues in the quickest, most efficient and cost-effective manner. Our Technical Assistance Centre provides an ON-LINE service for all customers from minimal hardware and software support to comprehensive assistance for customers with critical needs. Technical expertise can be accessed by telephone, fax or email, backed up by remote diagnostics minimising the need for on-site intervention.


Off-Site

Minimising capital investment costs without affecting the reliability of the system equipment is an important consideration. Being able to rely on fast turnaround of repaired equipment and immediate replacement of key components allows the operator to reduce the risk of system downtime and to rationalise spares holdings. Alcatel offers a full repair service with a range of options on turnaround times and replacement services. All equipment repairs are carried out OFF-SITE at our product repair centres or manufacturing units, which ensures that the highest quality standards are maintained.

 

On-Site

System availability relies on experienced and qualified personnel for a range of activities in operating centres and terminal stations. Having immediate access to a wide range of skilled personnel with up-to-date equipment knowledge and hands-on experience means that the operator can optimise staffing levels without jeopardising service delivery. Alcatel can provide specialist personnel for all ON-SITE activities including site engineering, installation and testing, routine and preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, upgrades and resident engineers.

 

On-Board

Minimising restoration costs depends on rapid deployment of competent marine personnel to deal with external aggression faults, however infrequently these may occur. Efficient repairs and maintenance of submerged plant demands skilled personnel who are continuously qualified and familiar with cable repair techniques. Establishing and managing a team with up-to-date jointing and transmission skills together with equipment and materials requires time, experience and capital an overhead investment, which may not be economically viable for all operators. Alcatel can offer fully trained specialist personnel ON-BOARD ship for all your repair and maintenance

 

Advanced

Operating and maintaining a complex network requires a wide range of skills that may not be needed or be available on a full time basis. Access to specialist services on demand allows operators to concentrate resource on their key operational activities without compromising service delivery. We can draw on the most appropriate technical, project or other specialist staff to apply their in-depth knowledge to our customers' needs. ADVANCED services include pre-installation and integration testing, network project management, network upgrades and safe disposal of obsolete equipment.

Performance

As the system and network evolves, personnel and procedures may change but the operator must ensure that service delivery to the end-user remains consistent and meets the agreed quality standards. We can make available personnel and expertise from all sectors of our business to provide a range of PERFORMANCE enhancement services. These include standard technician and engineering training, system specific operator training, consultancy services and the design and production of customised technical documentation.
