Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks is providing maintenance and related services in support of submarine cables in ACMA 2004,
using two advanced cable maintenance vessels supported by depot facilities in Brest.
The Atlantic Cable Maintenance Agreement 2004 (ACMA 2004)
is a cooperative non-profit arrangement consisting of more than fifty telecommunications
companies on all the continents that border the Atlantic Ocean. It provides for at-sea maintenance
services for the vast majority of underwater telecom cables, more than 150,000 Km of cables,
crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Alcatel-Lucent are supplying one vessel from its own fleet to
ACMA, while the second vessel is provided to Alcatel-Lucent by France Telecom Marine,
on a subcontract basis. The ACMA traces its origin back over thirty years and is
considered by many to be the premier provider of submarine cable system repair services in the world today.
The ACMA operate with moderate to deepwater depths and, for some of the areas, dense shipping and fishing activities.
As a result of this challenging area, Alcatel-Lucent has some of the worlds most experienced personnel within submarine cable maintenance.
ACMA 2004 offers a full range of high quality service solution including advanced vessels, certified jointers, ROVs
(Remotely Operated Vehicles), depot facilities for cable and plant etc.
