The exposed Works

Afghanistan. Pakistani Border. Landikotal. 1986
In an Afghanistan wounded by years of conflict, the vision of caravans sent on the roads of exodus was common. Men, women and children fled the war and walked towards a little piece of peace. Exile to neighboring countries was their only way out. The caravan of women that had come from the center of the country was crossing the village towards Pakistan. Every woman carried her belongings in an ammunition container. Like many old villages in Caucasia, the Middle-East, Asia and Africa, Landikotal is flanked by towers, which for a long time were used by sentinels to prevent any enemy attack, and whose top room was filled with food, allowing every family to live through a siege. The 20th century introduced a new weapon industry. Air forces, bombers and missiles shattered the century’s-old principles of defense and observation of architecture. Man buried himself in mountain tunnels to defend himself.
