The Alcatel atrium, a place for exposure and exchange

At the heart of Alcatel's headquarters, this interior courtyard that was once a small parking lot, was transformed into an Atrium when architect, Jean-Marie Charpentier, and interior designer, Stéphane Gueguen, renovated the entire building (completed in 1998). In this space, designed like that of a cathedral nave, glass walkways connect the floors and Thierry Vidé's satellite sculptures float between the support pylons.

Meeting and videoconference rooms surround the Atrium at ground level making this space the nerve center of the building and a place of exchange as well as a crossroads.

Covered by a movable, half-moon shaped window that opens to the sky, the Atrium is easily transformed into an exhibition space that can reinforce the visibility of Alcatel's photography sponsoring activities.

In 2004, a system of pulleys and cables was added that enable artworks to be suspended as if they were floating in space.

Inaugurated in February 2004, this space hosts five to six exhibits per year. It is a means to help Alcatel employees, partners, and customers to discover new artworks, give them another view on photography thus reflecting the multicultural and international of the Group.

The photos that are exhibited in the Atrium will progressively constitute Alcatel's photography collection.
