SCORE : Service of Coordinated Operational Emergency & Rescue using EGNOS

On March 3rd, in Lisbon (Portugal), Alcatel Alenia Space successfully demonstrated the first emergency service based on EGNOS, a precursor of Galileo.

Alcatel Alenia Space demonstrated how the first EGNOS/Galileo-based emergency solution enhances the efficiency of rescue services at Lisbon’s SNBPC (National Service for Civil Protection and Fire). Institutions, fire brigades, civil security forces and industry representatives from Portugal, France and The Netherlands, attended the field trial in Lisbon validated the SCORE concept : an integrated end-to-end Location-Based Solution (LBS) solution developed in the scope of the European Research and Development.

This emergency management solution combines an Egnos-enhanced accurate positioning (Assisted-GPS improved by EGNOS) integrated with the telecom network and the emergency control centre application, which results in fast and accurate localization of persons in distress as well as of intervention vehicles and personnel.

Nicolas de-Ledinghen, Vice President of Alcatel Alenia Space's navigation activities said: "This emergency management solution provides great precision, indoor coverage, instantaneous location identification and is high availaible in most environments. This is the ideal service for rescue teams, is easy to integrate with existing infrastructure and enables the optimization of resources, thus speeding up the rescue process."
