Alcatel @ 3GSM World Congress

Alcatel was out in full force at this year's highly successful 3GSM World Congress in Cannes. All demos and presentations were focused on showing how Alcatel enables successful multimedia services.

Mobile market trends – The market for mobile telephony is undergoing a fundamental shift, as operators move from their traditional role as voice and data carriers to the new business of providing packaged solutions. Alcatel anticipated this shift and is strongly positioned in this changing environment. Moreover, Alcatel is committed to the long-term process of building 3G, and has the resources and expertise needed for success.

The value chain for mobile telephony has become increasingly complex and now involves many players. With its pivotal role in infrastructure, end-user applications, payment facilities and professional services, Alcatel has become a real enabler across the entire mobile telephony value chain.

Alcatel's positioning in the mobile industry – Industry analysts cite Alcatel's growing role in the infrastructure market with a solid 15% market share in GSM (source: Merrill Lynch) and excellent prospects for 3G, particularly because of Alcatel's flexible Evolium systems. It is expected that Alcatel's share of the 3G infrastructure business will reach the levels achieved in 2G (source: West LB). More...

The Evolium concept – Alcatel's value proposition for operators is based on the Evolium Concept, a business model that is focused on overwhelming cost reduction. The model relies on Alcatel's single, multi-standard platform, which is reengineered every 9 months for continuous cost reduction, providing an optimized investment for operators.

The broadband world – Alcatel's activity in 3G is booming, with a burgeoning array of partnerships, field trials and commercial launches testifying to the ramping up of this business. Infrastructure contracts have been established with leading operators worldwide, some 20 experimental 3G networks are being built, and there are a growing number of contracts for 3G end-user services. Services for end users – As a communications solutions company, Alcatel is firmly focused on its customers' customer, providing a broad array of multimedia services for the end user. Chief among these is an extensive range of attractive video services, designed for mobile networks. These include video broadcasting and video messaging and communications. More...

New initiatives – Alcatel is actively pursuing new growth opportunities in the fields of mobile kiosks, real-time content charging, and outsourcing, providing operators with fully hosted solutions for delivering multimedia services, improved billed capabilities, and cost-reduction through outsourcing of network functions.
